EndoLift™ Port-Free Retractor

The EndoLift™ Port-Free Retractor is specifically designed to provide retraction of larger soft tissue structures, such as the liver and uterus, from within the body cavity, through an existing port. Virtual Ports’ proprietary MicroAnchoring™ Technology provides the foundation for this unique device, which enhances visualization of the target tissue by retracting it in two directions, anteriorly and superiorly. The EndoLift Retractor and organ are anchored directly to the endocavity wall, outside of the surgeon's critical view, resulting in exceptional tissue access without cluttering the laparoscopic workspace.

The EndoLift Retractor deploys quickly and safely through an existing 5-mm or larger port by means of a reusable Applier hand instrument and assumes its functional shape once inside the body. Comprised of a telescopic stainless steel bar and two articulated clips positioned on either end of the bar, the EndoLift Retractor provides the surgeon flexibility in choosing the direction and angle of retraction. The stainless steel bar is positioned underneath the soft tissue and the Applier instrument is used to grasp one of the clips and anchor it to the intra-abdominal wall. The process of fastening the second clip creates the lift necessary to move the soft tissue structure out of the operative field. Once the organ is securely fastened to the peritoneal wall, the Applier hand instrument is removed and the port is available for use by other laparoscopic tools. The combination of fewer tools in the abdominal cavity, along with complete organ retraction, serves to greatly improve the operative critical view and workspace of laparoscopic procedures.

Virtual Ports technology minimizes the complications and reduces the costs associated with conventional organ retraction(1). By using an atraumatic method to position the organ, the risk of perforation is decreased(2) . As well, fewer incisions reduce the patient’s post-operative discomfort, risk of infection, recovery time and procedure cost. Operating room personnel accustomed to holding conventional retraction devices now have their hands free to perform other surgical tasks. And, importantly, fewer incisions improve the aesthetic outcome for the patient.
